Du Du charmingly lies in a tranquil village, belonging to Thanh Oai district, 30km from the capital of Hanoi. The village has preserved the essence of the traditional sculpture over many generations.
According to the artisan - Nguyen Duy Sinh, the origin of the craft has been still unknown. The village’s descendants claimed that sculptural products of the village had been in temples for 500 years ago.
In Nguyen Dynasty, dozens of artisans in Du Du village had invited to the capital to make intricate sculptures in the magnificent imperial palace.
These days, the traditional sculpture village offers various kinds of lively and artistic sculptures that display traditional cultural and historic themes. Unique sculptures of Du Du village including products for decoration, furniture and wooden statues are exported to China, Taiwan and other Southeast Asian countries.
With their skillful hands and creativities, Du Du villagers have made lively and soulful sculptures from precious wood. What makes wooden products inimitable and more favorite is products’ material. The wood materials are taken from the Central Highland region and can change color throughout the seasons. Craftsmen meticulously carve sophisticated patterns on wooden products with various shapes.
