Fansipan is located on the southwest of the town of Sapa, Sapa District, Lao Cai Province. With a length of 280 km from Phong Tho to Hoa Binh province, the widest horizontal foothills is a 75km range, 45 km narrowed, consists of three blocks: Bach Moc Luong Tu block, Fansipan block, and Pu Luong block. This massive roof is an exciting destination for tourists from everywhere, it hides many strange, but the most strange and mysterious is Fansipan peak.
Fansipan is the highest mountain of the Indochinese Peninsula (3,143 meters), therefore, it is known as the "Roof of Indochina", located in the center of Hoang Lien Son range. Although it is just 9 km from Sapa town to the southwest, if walking and climbing, visitors have to take 6 to 7 days to conquer this mountain. However, due to the cable car system, it is easier for travelers to go to Fansipan peak.

Below the base of the mountain is the rice plant, jackfruit trees, trees with relatively thick density, creating landmarks Coc Leu (rice cup), Coc San. From here to a height of 700m is the tropical belt having spaces of virgin forest with the dense and tangled vines. The area of over 700m is the layer of gymnosperms such as ‘Pơmu’ trees which are up to several hundred years old. The coniferous trees are mixed with many small trees, and always have wet bodies because of the more high, the rainier. Some years, Fansipan was rainy during one month. Interspersed with coniferous forests is the azalea flowers, orchids, brilliant orioles. Almost four seasons, Sa Pa is steeped with colorful flowers.
With the 2.400m high, the wind and clouds are mixed with trees, sometimes visitors imagine they can grasp the clouds by their hands. From 2,800 m altitude, the haze suddenly vanishes, the sky is cloudless and blue. And, only the wind blows that makes vegetation paste into stones. The ground is covered by short bamboo interspersed with some sedge plant, rose, Hoang Lien trees. The wind constant blows, and the climate is cold.
On the high point of 2.963m, there is a marked milestone in 1905 the French had come to conquer the peak. The higher is a huge stone block rose up by the small stones like a table. That is Fansipan peak, according to the local language, it is called "Hua-si-pan," meaning big giant stone is tottering. Fansipan peak is towering in the sky structured by such rocks.
