In the trips to Hanoi, apart from café stores or entertainment centers, relaxing in some beautiful, super clean, super quiet parks is the suitable choice for visitors who want to rest in a quiet and peaceful space. Thong Nhat Park is a typical place to stop to gather with friends one day away from the noise, the bustle of the capital, Hanoi.
Like many parks around Hoan Kiem Lake, Bay Mau Lake, Truc Bach Lake, Thong Nhat Park is considered one of the most notable Hanoi sights and is also seen as one of the green lungs that enrich natural space in Hanoi.
Thong Nhat Park has an area of over 50 hectares, situated on Le Duan, Tran Nhan Tong, Dai Co Viet and Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets. Before the peace was restored in Hanoi, this area had been a landfill and wetland of the two villages, Van Ho and The Giao. As soon as the peace was reconstructed, along with requirements for environmental improvements, a construction project of the park has been approved. At that time, citizens wanted to have a united country, therefore, since 1955 students of universities, employees, and officials have made a socialist labor movement, carrying soil, dredging the lake, and planting trees.
In 1958, Thong Nhat Park was started building carrying the hope of country’s reunification. The design of the park symbolized for that desire. The park was divided into different areas , however, these parts concentrated planting trees of all 3 regions, and in the middle was a big road carrying the meaning of unification of the nation and looking towards the lake where placed Peace and Reunification islands. In late 1960, the park was completed. It preserved the historical imprint of Vietnam. Nowadays, it still retains the banyan tree planted by Uncle Ho. Moreover, a lot of leaders of Vietnam and some countries in the world has come here to grow a memorial tree. That is the mark of history of a fascinating Hanoi which has risen up in the smoke of war and has developed continuously.
