Nestle in Song Dong commune, Hoai Duc - the suburb district, 15 km from Hanoi centre, Son Dong sculpture village has a long-standing history as a traditional handicraft village for carving "statues, sculptures, and red lacquer trimmed with gold".
So far, the village’s descendants no longer remember the origin of the craft, could be found following the evolutions of Vietnamese Buddhism. From the ancient times, sculpture products of Son Dong village was famed nationwide for paralleled sentences, bas-reliefs, Buddhist statues or religious items.
Mesmerize visitors by intricate and complicated products. From normal wood blocks, artisans with skill hands marvelously create soul for their products, make them lively and artistic.
Song Dong villagers are always proud of their profession, recognized as "a trade village that sculpts the largest quantity of statues and worshipping objects for Buddhists", by Vietnam Record Book Center.
